The K-pop girl group’s South Korean label YG Entertainment reportedly shared the news of Lisa’s solo debut in a statement, according to Soompi. “Lisa will film the music video for her new song this week,” YG said, per the outlet. “She will be making her solo debut this summer.”
Lisa will be the penultimate member of BLACKPINK to release solo music. Jennie led the way in November 2018 with her single aptly titled “SOLO,” which made her the second-ever solo female K-pop star to top Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart. Coming in second was Rosé, who teased her solo debut during the group’s The Show livestream concert earlier this year. Her debut solo project from March included the singles “Gone” and “On the Ground,” the latter of which went No. 1 on both of Billboard‘s global charts — the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S.
Among the four BLACKPINK members, the first one to put out a solo release was Jennie back in 2018, with the aptly titled single . (Back in February, during The Show, Jennie even put a new spin on the track as a surprise gift for Blinks.) A few years after Jennie’s solo, Rosé followed suit with the release of her single album R, which included “On the Ground” and “Gone,” this March. It looks like Lisa’s turn is finally next in line.
Jennie and Rosé were also recently spotted in L.A. and YG reportedly confirmed the purpose of the trip was to work on new music. (They have since shared pictures with the likes of Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande’s producer Tommy Brown.) Jisoo, on the other hand, is preparing for her major acting debut. The oldest in BLACKPINK is currently filming a K-drama for JTBC. The working title is Snowdrop and, per Soompi, it will be penned by Yoo Hyun Mi and directed by Jo Hyun Tak. Not much is known about the project as of yet, but Jisoo will have a leading role. YG has also recently shared Jisoo’s profile on its acting branch, YG Stage.
As a quartet, BLACKPINK will be releasing a five-part project, called 4+1, this August to celebrate the fifth anniversary of their debut.
